If you tie a stone to a string and swing it in a circle, you feel a pull on your hand. That pull is providing the Centripetal Force.

Without that force pulling the stone inward toward the center, the stone would fly off in a straight line. Gravity does the same thing for the Moon, keeping it circling the Earth instead of flying off into space.
