In physics, "Work" has a specific meaning. You are only doing work if you apply a force AND the object moves in the direction of the force.

Formula: Work = Force × Distance.

If you push against a solid concrete wall for 3 hours and sweat buckets, in everyday language you assume you worked hard. But in physics, you did zero work because the wall did not move! Interesting, right?
