Not all metals stick to magnets. Copper and Aluminum don't care about magnets at all!
Ferromagnetic materials are the ones that strongly attract. Iron, Nickel, and Cobalt are the big three. If you are scavenging for scrap metal, a magnet is the best way to separate the iron from the rest.
