The legend says Archimedes shouted "Eureka!" when he found this. He realized that the Upthrust force is exactly equal to the weight of the fluid displaced.
If you submerge a big stone, and it pushes aside 2kg of water, the water will push back up with a force of 20 Newtons (the weight of that 2kg water).
