What is a Micrometer Screw Gauge?

The Micrometer Screw Gauge is even more precise than the Vernier Caliper! We use it for measuring very thin things, like the diameter of a wire or the thickness of a piece of paper.

It works by counting the rotations of a screw thread. Always remember to check for "zero error" first—closing the jaws completely to see if it reads zero—before creating your measurement, otherwise your final answer will be slightly off.
