In simple terms, a force is a push or a pull. It is what causes an object to change its state of rest or motion.
If a football is sitting on the pitch, it won't move until you apply a force (a kick). If it is moving, it won't stop until a force (friction or the net) stops it. Force is measured in Newtons (N).
